Mark 15:37–41
At the moment Jesus died, three witnesses speak.
The curtain speaks.
God tears it open, declaring that the way into His presence is now open.
The centurion speaks.
A Roman soldier looks at the dying Christ and says:
“Truly this man was the Son of God.”
And the companions speak without words.
They remain.
They watch.
They stay when others flee.
Together they reveal the meaning of the cross.
The curtain shows what Jesus accomplished.
The centurion shows who Jesus is.
The companions show what true discipleship looks like.
Every person who encounters the cross must respond.
Some mock.
Some ignore.
Some walk away.
But others confess Christ as the Son of God and follow Him.
The cross still demands a response today.
As C.S. Lewis wrote:
“Christianity, if false, is of no importance, and if true, of infinite importance.”
The cross is the dividing line of history.
And every heart must decide what it believes about the man who died there.
