Scripture: Malachi 3:5
“Then I will draw near to you for judgment. I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, against the adulterers, against those who swear falsely, against those who oppress the hired worker in his wages, the widow and the fatherless, against those who thrust aside the sojourner, and do not fear me, says the Lord of hosts.”
Reflection
Picture a courtroom. The judge enters, and the gavel slams down. You are in the defendant’s chair, and the evidence against you is undeniable. Every thought, every word, every action—laid bare before the all-seeing Judge. There is no excuse, no justification. Guilty.
The Israelites cried out for justice against the wicked, but they failed to see that they, too, stood guilty before a holy God. And so do we. Romans 3:23 reminds us: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
But then something incredible happens. Jesus enters the courtroom. He walks up to where you sit, places His hand on your shoulder, and says, “Get up… you’re in My seat.” He takes your place in the defendant’s chair, absorbing the full weight of God’s judgment. The sentence of wrath that was rightfully yours falls upon Him instead.
At the cross, Jesus took our punishment. Isaiah 53:5 declares: “He was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.” Justice was served—not on us, but on Christ.
The gavel falls. The verdict? For Jesus: condemned. For you: pardoned.
And now, because of Him, we stand not as defendants, but as redeemed children of God.

Prayer
Father, I deserve judgment, but in Your mercy, You sent Jesus to take my place. Thank You for the cross, for Your grace, and for the freedom I now have in Christ. Refine me, purify me, and help me to live in gratitude and obedience to You. Let my life reflect Your justice, mercy, and love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Final Thought: You once sat in the defendant’s chair, but Jesus took your place. Now live as one who has been set free.
