“Selah”: Immutability – Trusting in an Unchanging God

📖 Scripture: “For I the Lord do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed.” – Malachi 3:6

Historical Context:

The Israelites doubted God’s faithfulness because of their hardships. They questioned why the wicked prospered and why their own blessings seemed to disappear. Malachi reminded them that God had not changed; they had. Their disobedience, not God’s character, was the problem.

Cross References:

  • Hebrews 13:8“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”
  • Numbers 23:19“God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind.”
  • James 1:17“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.”

Takeaways:

✅ God’s promises remain true no matter our circumstances.
✅ When we feel distant from God, it’s often because we have moved, not Him.
✅ Trusting in an unchanging God brings security and peace.

Application Questions:

  1. Do you trust that God’s character and promises are unchanging? Why or why not?
  2. In what areas of your life have you doubted God’s faithfulness?
  3. How does knowing that God never changes bring you confidence in your finances and generosity?

Prayer:

Lord, I thank You that You are unchanging. In a world full of uncertainty, I choose to trust in Your faithfulness. Help me to align my heart with truth, knowing that You will always provide. Amen.
