Text: Malachi 4:2
“But for you who fear my name, the sun of righteousness shall rise with healing in its wings. You shall go out leaping like calves from the stall.”

Verse 2 begins with one of the most beautiful words in Scripture: “But.” It’s a contrasting conjunction—a divine pivot. In verse 1, the wicked are burned up like stubble. But you—God’s people, those who fear His name—will experience something totally different.
Instead of fire, light.
Instead of destruction, healing.
Instead of sorrow, freedom and joy.
The Sun of Righteousness—a poetic yet prophetic picture of Christ Himself—will rise with healing in His wings (Isaiah 53:5). And what does that healing lead to? Not just comfort—but leaping. The image is one of calves released from a winter stall—free, wild, joyful. If you’ve ever seen it, you know it’s pure delight. That’s what God offers to those who belong to Him.

This is the joy of those who have been set free from the stall of sin. Some people still think the barn—the mess, the stink, the confinement—is all there is. But in Christ, the gate has been thrown open. We are free.
