? Sermon Preview: “The Weight of Honor”

? Exodus 20:12 – “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the LORD your God is giving you.”

Have you ever wondered why honoring your parents made God’s Top Ten list?

Not just obeying—but honoring?
And not just fathers—but mothers, too?

What does it mean to “honor” someone in a world where words come cheap and relationships are complex?
What if your mother wasn’t perfect? What if she’s gone? What if your story is messy?

And yet God says:

“Honor your father and your mother…” — Exodus 20:12
“…that it may go well with you…” — Ephesians 6:2–3
“Cursed be anyone who dishonors his father or his mother.” — Deuteronomy 27:16
“Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.” — Ephesians 6:1

Clearly, this matters deeply to God.

But why?
What does “honor” actually look like?
Is this command just for kids—or does it follow us into adulthood?
What happens when we honor, and what happens when we don’t?

This Sunday, we’ll explore what it means to “give weight” to the people God used to give us life—and how doing so might unlock peace, healing, and blessing in yours.

Come ready to think, reflect, and maybe forgive.
