1️⃣ Life is LOUD!
Life is noisy, isn’t it?
Work pressures, family drama (I like to say I put the fun in dysfunction), politics, endless opinions, social media debates.
Ever want to just hit pause and ask:
“God, what do you really want from me?”
That question cuts through the noise.
It’s exactly the question a certain scribe asked Jesus one day—and it changed everything.
2️⃣ Historical Context
By the time of Jesus, Jewish scribes had identified 613 commandments in the Torah (Genesis–Deuteronomy).
613! That’s a lot of rules.
They often debated:
- Which commandment is the heaviest?
- Which one sums them all up?
Rabbi Hillel famously boiled it down to the Golden Rule in the negative:
“That which you hate, do not do to another.”
But he missed something crucial: love for God.
That’s the backdrop when one scribe sincerely asks Jesus:
“Which commandment is the most important of all?”
(Mark 12:28)
Unlike the others who tried to trap Jesus, this man was different. He wasn’t playing games. He was seeking truth.
3️⃣ Scripture Reflection
Mark 12:28
“And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him, ‘Which commandment is the most important of all?’”
Notice:
- He’s witnessed all the debates.
- He’s impressed with Jesus’ wisdom.
- He isn’t trying to trap him—he’s sincere.
It’s like he’s saying:
“Rabbi, I can’t do 613 things. Just tell me the one that matters most.”
Sound familiar?
We all want to know what God truly wants from us in this complicated, messy life.

- Are you trying to keep all the rules without first loving God?
- What priorities, distractions, or “noise” in your life drown out God’s call to love?
- How might loving God first transform how you love others?

“Lord, what would You have me do today?”
✅ Write Micah 6:8 somewhere you’ll see it daily.
✅ Choose one noisy distraction to “pause” this week—social media, news, gossip—and replace it with focused prayer.

Lord, strip away the noise and confusion of my busy life. Help me see what truly matters to You. Teach me to love You with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength. And let that love overflow to my neighbor. May I not be satisfied with half-answers or selfish love. Instead, give me a heart that asks often and sincerely: “Lord, what would You have me do?” Amen.
