Jesus is teaching in the Temple courts during His final week before the cross. The religious leaders have been challenging Him publicly—and now, He turns the tables.
The scribes, known for their knowledge of the Law, often wore long robes, sought public greetings, and were given the best seats in the synagogues. But beneath the religious veneer, Jesus sees greed, pride, and exploitation—especially toward vulnerable widows (v.40).
In sharp contrast, a widow, likely overlooked and uncelebrated, gives two small copper coins—literally, all she has to live on. While others gave from abundance, she gave from desperation, trust, and wholehearted devotion.
