Text: Malachi 4:1
“For behold, the day is coming, burning like an oven, when all the arrogant and all evildoers will be stubble…”
? Historical Context:
Malachi preached to a post-exilic people who had returned from Babylonian captivity. Though the temple was rebuilt and worship resumed, the people were spiritually complacent and cynical. They questioned whether righteousness mattered because evil seemed to flourish unchecked. Into this frustration, God declares that a day of reckoning is certain and justified.
