One Flesh, One Purpose—Raising a Godly Legacy

Scripture

“Did he not make them one, with a portion of the Spirit in their union? And what was the one God seeking? Godly offspring. So be on your guard, and do not be unfaithful to the wife of your youth.” — Malachi 2:15

Think About it…

Marriage isn’t just about two people—it’s about legacy. God unites a husband and wife through His Spirit, creating something deeper than mere companionship. He knits them together, body, soul, and spirit. But why? Because He is seeking godly offspring.

Parenting doesn’t start when a child is born; it starts in the foundation of a strong, unified marriage. Children learn about God’s love, faithfulness, and character first and foremost by watching their parents. A healthy, God-honoring marriage provides the firmest ground for a child to grow in faith.

But this doesn’t mean perfection. It means commitment—commitment to each other, to prayer, and to raising children in a home that reflects God’s truth. When children see parents who love each other well, forgive quickly, and pursue God together, they gain a living example of what it means to follow Christ.

Yet, just as marriage requires intentionality, so does parenting. The enemy seeks to divide families, to distract parents, and to weaken marriages. That’s why God commands: Be on your guard. Protect your heart, your marriage, and your children from anything that would pull them away from His truth.

So What?

  1. What message is your marriage sending to your children about love, commitment, and faith?
  2. In what ways can you be more intentional in spiritually leading your children?
  3. How can you and your spouse strengthen your relationship to provide a solid foundation for your family?

Take Action

  • Pray as a Family – Make prayer a normal and natural part of daily life, whether at meals, before bed, or during struggles. Pray about EVERYTHING WITH your children. Friends, conflict, needs – bring them to your Father in Heaven out loud with your children. Make Prayer the Air of your home.
  • Model a Strong Marriage – Let your children see affection, forgiveness, and teamwork between you and your spouse. Make them blush once a day with your PDA with your spouse.
  • Prioritize Church & Discipleship – Show your kids that faith isn’t just a Sunday activity—it’s a daily pursuit. Set up a time to worship at home as a family. Read a portion of scripture, pray in response and sing.
  • Guard Against Distractions – Limit screen time, set boundaries around work, and prioritize meaningful family time. Children need a healthy dose of vitamin NO.
  • Speak Blessings Over Your Children – Regularly affirm their identity in Christ and remind them of God’s purpose for their lives.

Your marriage is more than a relationship—it’s a blueprint for the next generation. Guard it well.
